The shared spaces families notice first
When a family tours a senior living community, they judge it in minutes: the drive-up and front walk, the lobby, the dining room at lunch and the hallway outside a model apartment. Residents notice the same places every day. Keeping them spotless helps a community feel like a place residents are proud of and prospective families can picture themselves in.
Continental Facilities looks after those shared spaces and the property around them. Common-area cleaning, day porters, floor care, landscaping, walkway washing and light maintenance sit in one program with one service manager, so your executive director and maintenance lead are not coordinating a separate vendor for each.
Communities of every layout in our area
Senior living in our service area ranges from mid-rise buildings on the Peninsula and in Walnut Creek to garden-style campuses with cottages and courtyards around Roseville, Elk Grove and Reno. Some combine independent living, assisted living and a secured memory care neighborhood on one site. Each layout changes the route a crew walks and the time each area needs.
We begin with a walkthrough of the whole community and write a room-by-room plan from what we see: the number of dining rooms, how far the hallways run, where the amenity spaces sit and which doors stay locked. Crews follow your community’s sign-in, door and escort rules in every neighborhood.
Lobbies, dining rooms and activity spaces
The lobby and reception area are cleaned daily: entry glass, seating, side tables, the front desk counter and floors. Dining rooms are cleaned once each meal service is cleared, with chairs wiped, crumbs vacuumed from upholstered seats and carpet, and hard floors mopped and dried before the next seating.
Libraries, card rooms, chapels, theaters, fitness rooms and salons are listed separately in the plan, each with tasks matched to how residents use the room. Seasonal decorations and displays are dusted where they stand. Crews keep the community’s furniture layout as they found it, so a resident’s favorite chair is in its usual spot the next morning.
Long hallways and everything people touch
Hallways in senior living carry walkers, wheelchairs and housekeeping carts all day, and the surfaces along them are touched constantly. Handrails, door handles, elevator buttons and light switches are wiped and disinfected on every visit, and elevator cabs are cleaned inside, including tracks and glass.
Corridor carpet is vacuumed and spot-cleaned, and hard floors are damp-mopped with wet-floor signs in place until they are dry. Common-area restrooms get fixtures, partitions and floors cleaned, with paper towels, tissue, soap and liners restocked either from our supply or from your own storeroom.
Porter coverage through the whole day
A community is occupied around the clock, so one evening visit leaves gaps. A day porter keeps the lobby, public restrooms and dining areas in shape between meals, answers spills and resets rooms after activities and family events. The evening crew then completes the full common-area clean.
Family celebrations, holiday parties and open houses for prospective residents can be booked as extra porter hours or added cleaning visits. The lobby, dining room and guest restrooms are then refreshed right before guests arrive and reset once they leave.
For buildings that never fully close, our guide to 24-hour building schedules explains how quiet windows are found for the heavier tasks.
Courtyards, walking paths and the front drive
Residents spend time outdoors, and visitors arrive by car. Our landscaping and grounds crews mow, edge, trim and clear debris from courtyards and garden beds. Walking paths, patios and entries are pressure washed on a calendar, and the parking area and drive-up are swept and cleared of litter. Ahead of an open house or holiday gathering, entries and patios can be washed and beds tidied a day early.
Inside, the same program handles light upkeep through our facility maintenance team: lamp replacement, faucet and toilet repairs, damaged ceiling tiles, paint touch-ups and HVAC filter changes, so a dripping faucet or flickering light is fixed without a separate vendor call.
Floor projects, screening and your quote
Dining room and hallway floors also get periodic projects, from strip-and-refinish of vinyl to carpet extraction and marble or terrazzo care in grand entries.
Crews are background-checked, and Continental’s insurance, bond and workers’ compensation coverage back every visit, with a certificate of insurance kept on file at your community. Supervisors check the work on inspection rounds. Pricing tracks the square footage of hallways, lounges and other common rooms, how many dining rooms the community runs, the porter hours you want and any grounds, floor or maintenance work you add. After the walkthrough, every item appears together on one written quote.
A few useful answers
Common questions.
Will cleaning interrupt meals or resident activities?
No. The schedule follows your dining and activity calendar, and each dining room is cleaned after its meal service is cleared.
How are crew members screened before they work around residents?
Background checks clear every crew member before their first shift in your building, and a supervisor reviews the finished areas on inspection rounds.
Can the dining room floors be refinished without closing the room for days?
Floor projects are booked overnight or between meal services, so the room is back in use for the next seating.
How do crews work inside a memory care neighborhood?
They follow your sign-in, door and escort rules, keep their carts with them and close every secured door behind them.
Can grounds care and walkway washing be part of the same plan?
Yes. Landscaping, pressure washing, parking area sweeping and light maintenance join the cleaning program under one service manager.
